Rarely is there such a controversial decision in a video game as choosing between romantic partners and The Witcher 3His choice between Yennefer and Triss is a particularly glaring example. GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Romance was part of it The Witcher franchise since it started. In her first two games The Witcher, Geralt doesn’t even have a choice, per se. He is allowed to make multiple choices in each game as he is not monogamous. In The Witcher 3, however, romance is framed with some finality. The player is forced to choose one or none. Choosing either Triss or Yennefer leads to an ending specific to this romance. Trying to romance both women will result in him ending up with neither. Therefore, despite Geralt’s antics, the decision between Triss and Yennefer is considered one of the most important choices in the series.

Few probably understand the significance of this choice like Geralt’s English voice actor, Doug Cockle. He has been Geralt’s voice actor since 2007, voicing not only the three main series releases but also the DLC, the A Night to Remember cinematic, and even the spin-off game Gwent. He knows the stories of Triss and Yennefer and Geralt’s relationship with both. So when Cockle says in an Xbox On interview that he prefers Triss, that means something.

In the interview, Cockle was asked if she’s more of a fan of Yen, to which Cockle says out of character: “Me, personally? No. I like them both, they’re both just amazing women.” He then explains that if he was in the game, Doug Cockle and not Geralt, “they would probably gravitate towards Triss”.

It makes perfect sense that Cockle would choose Triss. After all, Triss is obvious and romantic in all three The Witcher Games. Yennefer, on the other hand, is absent The Witcher and appears only in flashbacks to The Witcher 2. Yennefer is an incredible character The Witcher 3but she doesn’t have the same relationship that Tris has with those who played The Witcher and The Witcher 2. Cockle was supposed to have a much closer bond with Triss.

Precisely because Cockle says that Triss means the most to him as a romantic character The Witcher The series doesn’t make it more or less a definitive choice. In The Witcher books, for example, Triss is little more than a supporting character, while Yennefer is written as the only true match for Geralt. Every fan of his The Witcher she has her own experience with each woman and can only make this choice herself.

The Witcher 3 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
