As part of a Q&A session held during Nintendo’s recent financial update, gaming industry icon Shigeru Miyamoto shared why he believes The movie Super Mario Bros has the potential to be a hit with fans of the series and non-players alike. The wide-ranging Q&A session covered topics ranging from his involvement with the upcoming film, to the explosive sales numbers for the recently released squid-centric shooter Splatoon 3.


Shigeru Miyamoto is a figure who has become legendary among many gamers, serving as the creative force behind iconic franchises such as Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda. Beginning his career at Nintendo in the 1970s working on arcade titles, Miyamoto went on to create some of the most iconic franchises in gaming, often drawing on his childhood and hobbies for inspiration. In addition to Shigeru Miyamoto’s continued work on some of his classic franchises, the industry icon is also a producer on The movie Super Mario Brosit is due to be released in 2023.

In a Q&A published as part of Nintendo’s latest financial results update, Shigeru Miyamoto shared his thoughts on all things Nintendo. After discussing the continued success of the Nintendo Switch in light of hardware overhauls and recent high-profile releases for the portable gaming platform, Miyamoto was asked about expanding the Mario franchise to new audiences with The movie Super Mario Bros. Miyamoto explained that the film’s creators have spent a lot of time trying to create something that will appeal to a wide audience, while also assuring gamers that the film will be “true to their memories of the game.”

The movie Super Mario Bros has been the subject of skepticism by many fans of the franchise since it was announced in 2018. Fans are still reeling from the first attempt to bring the lucky plumbers to the screen, in 1993 it was critically Super Mario Bros., worried that the animated film would make the same mistakes as its live-action predecessor.
