Save your phone’s battery by turning this setting off

We’ve all struggled with whether to close background apps to save a low phone battery. Some people say yes, clearing background apps boosts your phone’s performance and saves your data. Others, including strains with apple and Google Android team, say no, background apps don’t take up enough of your phone’s resources to affect its performance.

You might be surprised to learn that both can be true. While background apps may not use your phone’s resources by themselves, Android phones and iPhone it will periodically refresh background apps by default. This uses your phone battery and your data. While refreshing apps in the background doesn’t drain your resources that much screen brightness and cellular connection, stopping apps from refreshing can help save your battery and data when you really need it.

Low power consumption mode for iPhone and Battery Saver for Android phones both prevent apps from refreshing in the background. However, they also pause or change other settings, such as screen refresh rate and device performance. These options will certainly save your battery and data, but they cause more dramatic changes compared to stopping apps from refreshing in the background.

Here’s how you can stop apps from refreshing in the background, helping your battery last longer and saving data.

Stop refreshing background apps on iPhone

If you have one iPhonehere’s how to stop refreshing background apps.

1. Open Settings.

2. Puncture General.

3. Puncture Background app refresh.

4. Puncture Background app refresh again.

Here you can choose to enable background refresh Away from, limit background apps to refresh when online wifi, or allow background apps to refresh Wi-Fi and mobile data.

If you choose Wi-Fi the Wi-Fi and mobile data, you can also choose which apps can refresh in the background. For this, follow the first three steps above. You should then see a list of apps near the bottom of the page and choose which ones can refresh in the background.

Stop background apps from refreshing on Android

4. Change Use data saver on.

Data saver will stop background apps from using data unless your phone is connected to Wi-Fi. You can tap Unlimited data directly beneath Use data saverand this allows you to choose three apps to have unlimited data access even with Data saving on.

You can also allow certain apps to use background data. Here’s how.

3. Puncture Mobile network.

4. Puncture Use of application data.

5. Tap the app you want.

6. Change The background data on.

Now you can decide which apps refresh in the background, potentially saving your battery and data.
