LEGO Keeps Rejecting Zelda Pitches

LEGO reportedly flatly bans submissions to the fan-based LEGO Ideas platform based on The Legend of Zelda franchise.

LEGO allegedly prohibited The Legend of Zelda-thematic submissions from the LEGO Ideas community platform. The Legend of Zelda is an extremely popular Nintendo video game franchise. Not surprisingly, there are a good number The Legends of Zelda fans who also love LEGO and have created impressive builds for submission through LEGO Ideas, but those fans will just have to wait for LEGO and Nintendo to fix the problem first.

Nintendo and LEGO have had a growing partnership in recent years, leading to the release of multiple Nintendo-themed LEGO sets. These have focused entirely on Super Mario Bros. franchise, including some interactive sets aimed at younger audiences. There is also a Nintendo Entertainment System set, although it also has Super Mario Bros. shown playing on classical television. However, the partnership has yet to extend to other Nintendo franchises.

What this moment means is that everything exists The Legend of Zelda-LEGO-themed submissions to the LEGO Ideas website have been rejected. BrickFanatics explains that there have been at least 8 different base fan designs in the past The Legend of Zelda which reached 10,000 votes on LEGO Ideas. This is the threshold required to receive a review from the LEGO team. All of these were eventually rejected. We are moving forward, The Legend of Zelda projects won’t even get a chance for review.

BrickFanatics states that this is likely to be good news The Legend of Zelda fans. While fan submissions may not become reality in the future, the decision to ban them may be because Nintendo and LEGO have agreed to release official sets. This doesn’t necessarily make up for fans not being able to submit their ideas, but it would be better than nothing.

Fans unfortunately also have to acknowledge that this could just be Nintendo putting their foot down. Nintendo is known to protect its properties and The Legend of Zelda submissions for LEGO Ideas could be considered LEGOs benefiting from Nintendo’s IP. Here’s hoping otherwise, but Nintendo and LEGO Fans should probably lower their expectations.
