  • In an interview with People, Graham spoke for the first time about the split.
  • The “Gilmore Girls” star said they weren’t asking “the questions people in their 40s should be asking.”

Lauren Graham has opened up about her split from partner Peter Krause for the first time and said the ex-couple didn’t ask “the questions people in their 40s should be asking”.

The actress, who is best known for playing the brainy Lorelai Gilmore on the beloved 2000s TV drama “Gilmore Girls,” spoke to People ahead of the release of her latest book, “Have I Told You This Already? Stories I You don’t want to forget to remember,” and shared what she thinks caused the breakup.

Graham, 55, said the couple’s fundamental differences “caught up” as they failed to interrogate their respective values and visions for the relationship.

“I think part of all the positives of knowing each other for a long time was there,” the actor said. “And one of the downsides of that is that we almost got into a relationship as people in their 40s without asking any of the questions that people in their 40s should be asking.”

He continued: “We had such a good time together that maybe I didn’t ask some basic questions about, ‘What are your values and what do you envision?’ And these bigger things. And then they caught up with us.”

The two actors first met in 1995 when they starred in the same episode of the NBC sitcom Caroline in the City. However, it wasn’t until 2010 that they started dating as siblings Adam and Sarah Braverman on another NBC show, “Parenthood.”

Graham also said that writing her new collection of essays was a welcome distraction from dealing with the split, which happened in 2021 but wasn’t made public until June this year.

Noting that she has always been “resilient” as she was raised to “take your knocks and don’t complain,” she said: “Somewhere in this is a year like this that I just won’t let go [the breakup] flatten me’.
