Barack Obama is campaigning for Gretchen Whitmer in Michigan
With a week to go until the final day of voting in the midterm elections, control of the US Senate remains in the balance as new polls show Democrats narrowly leading or tied in key states.
According to new research from The New York Times and Siena College, Arizona’s Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania’s John Fetterman and Georgia’s Raphael Warnock all lead their opponents by 3-6 points. If all three won, it would represent a clean sweep of one seat for the Democrats.
However, if Mr Warnock finishes with less than 50 per cent of the vote after November 8 – as expected based on current polls – he and Mr Walker will be forced into a January run-off.
Meanwhile, former President Barack Obama continues his tour of key late-race states as Democrats try to boost voter enthusiasm and turnout in their base. Many in the party worry that Joe Biden’s acceptance flag is a sign that voters who broadly agree with his administration’s agenda are disincentivized to vote on Nov. 8, raising the prospect that Republicans could win key races thanks to an “excitement gap”.
