Grassley Blocks GOP Green Card For Biden’s Afghans

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) successfully blocked establishment Republicans, joined by Democrats, in their efforts to override a provision in a year-end spending package that would have given green cards to tens of thousands of Afghans brought to the United States States President Joe Biden despite allegations of widespread audit failures.

Following the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan in August 2021, Biden opened a refugee pipeline that has resettled more than 86,000 Afghans in American communities — many without having to be vetted or interviewed in person beforehand.

For months, Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) have been rallying more GOP support for the Afghanistan Adjustment Act that would give green cards to most Afghans carrying in the US by the Biden administration.

Most recently, Senators Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Roger Wicker (R-MS) signed on to the plan, joining Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Chris Coons (D-DE), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN ) , and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).

The Senate team failed to include the green card plan in the end-of-year National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and had hoped to slip it into the $1.7 trillion spending package, but failed, thanks to a push from Grassley .

NBC News reports:

Grassleyof Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said through his office that thesuggested how the Biden administration had used “conditional humanitarian” to cover such a large group of refugees and that the bill failed to adequately address concerns about refugee screening. [Emphasis added]

“Management’s failure to properly screen Afghans removed during this process has resulted in individuals being flagged for security reasons after they had already arrived in the United States,” Grassley’s office said. [Emphasis added]

“The Senate has received a number of classified briefings on this matter, and Senator Grassley has been outspoken about the need for transparency so that all Americans can know the full extent of these security concerns in the United States.” [Emphasis added]

Last year, Grassley requested information on the number of Afghans seeking entry to the U.S. who were on the federal government’s “No Fly List” because of their ties to Islamic terrorism. Senior Biden officials declined to disclose the total.

The vetting failures, as Breitbart News has documented, have plagued Biden’s massive resettlement operation in Afghanistan that has seen Afghans resettled in nearly all 50 states.

In September, the DHS Inspector General issued a bombshell report detailing how Biden brought Afghans into the US who were “not fully screened” and may “endanger national security.”

Similarly, in February 2022, a Department of Defense (DOD) Inspector General report revealed that Biden’s agencies failed to properly screen Afghans arriving in the US and that approximately 50 Afghans were flagged for “significant security concerns” after reinstalling them.

Most of the undocumented Afghans flagged for possible ties to terrorism, the DOD Inspector General’s report says, have since disappeared into American communities. The report noted that as of September 17, 2021, only three of the 31 Afghans flagged with specific “derogatory information” could be located.

Independent reports of complaints reached the same conclusions.

In August, Senators Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) exposed allegations from a whistleblower alleging that the Biden administration knowingly resettled nearly 400 Afghans in the US, who were listed as “potential threats” to the federal databases. and urged staff to cut corners in the audit process.

A report by Project Veritas alleges that the Biden administration resettled Afghans on the federal government’s “Terrorism Watch List” in communities across America.
