God of War Ragnarok Dev Team Santa Monica Studio Addresses Leaks

Sony’s Santa Monica Studio has released an official statement regarding the leaks surrounding its upcoming game God of War Ragnarok. God of War Ragnarok is scheduled to be released on November 9th, less than two weeks from now. Retailers are already receiving their supplies of the game and some of these retailers unfortunately seem to have missed the date and there are copies of God of War Ragnarok which is sold. The result is God of War Ragnarok spoilers shared online.

God of War Ragnarok is a game with many stories. Like its predecessor, it revolves around the relationship between the protagonist Kratos and his son, Atreus. Facts from the first God of War led directly to the prophesied Ragnarok, with Kratos and Atreus at the center of the apocalypse. The events of the game will see Kratos encounter Norse gods, including Thor and one-time ally Freya. Suffice it to say, there is a lot to break in the game that could ruin the experience for players.

Santa Monica Studio is understandably unhappy with the situation. A statement on Twitter explains that his priority is to help “preserve his experience God of War Ragnarok“for those who want to experience the game for the first time without spoilers. It assures God of War fans that the game will be worth the wait when God of War Ragnarok arrives on November 9 and shares a message of appreciation to those who have shown support during this difficult time.

However, that doesn’t mean Santa Monica Studio isn’t addressing the issue. Says it’s working aggressively to minimize exposure of “unapproved” footage and screenshots God of War Ragnarok, supposedly using DMCA to take content offline. Additionally, it encourages players to mute and filter keywords and hashtags associated with God of War Ragnarok on social media for the next two weeks.

The final request Santa Monica Studio has is for those who end up breaking, on purpose or by accident, not to spread the leak any further than it’s already gone. There will be bad actors spreading spoilers in order to ruin people’s experience with God of War Ragnarok. But those who see something can do others a favor by helping to prevent its spread.

How God of War Ragnarok Copies hitting the wild this early is a question Sony and retailers will have to sort out in time. Clearly, this is an unacceptable situation and steps must be taken to ensure it does not happen again. God of War Ragnarok Producer Cory Barlog has gone so far as to question whether it’s time for discs to simply include installers rather than the full game in the future, though he’s admittedly quite frustrated with the situation. Hopefully spoilers will be limited and everyone can enjoy God of War Ragnarok as intended.

God of War Ragnarok releases November 9 on PS4 and PS5.
