GigaBash Add Godzilla DLC

Multiplayer brawler Gigabash gave fans a look at the latest playable game, Godzilla, and revealed the release date of the upcoming DLC. In Gigabash, players compete in hand-to-hand combat as giant monsters known as Kaiju. Although the fighters are inspired by existing Kaiju characters, so far they have all been original creations. But that seems to be changing.

Gigabash is the debut project from Malaysian developer Passion Republic Games. The small, indie studio released the game earlier this year to generally positive reviews, with most agreeing that it delivered on its promise: frenetic co-op fun that’s easy to pick up and play with friends. Currently, Gigabash features 10 Kaiju slot machines, ranging from a retired superhero named Gigaman, to a monster that appears to be a sentient building, named Kongkrete. In September, the developers released a short collaboration teaser, revealing the addition of Godzilla to the roster, but did not provide a look at the character or other information.

Now Passion Republic Games has released a more substantial trailer, giving fans a quick look at Godzilla and revealing the DLC’s release date: December 9, 2022. The video begins with a shot over a destroyed cityscape, in keeping with its environmental design game. all battles take place between destroyed buildings. Eventually the scene fades to black, and after a moment Godzilla’s silhouette fills the screen. The scales on the monster’s back charge up, a sure sign of its upcoming signature attack, the atomic breath beam. The shot fades to black once again as the audience hears the Kaiju’s signature scream, a feature that persists from the classic Godzilla movie theater.

YouTube comments on the video offered nothing but excitement and support for both the new fighter and the indie studio in general. Many viewers expressed surprise that the King of All Kaiju is the first new character to be added to the game, especially since the developer is such a small company and the game has not seen widespread adoption. The first teaser a few months ago hinted at a collaboration, the exact nature of which is unknown. The Japanese company Toho Co. owns it Godzillaa franchise since its inception, but their level of involvement here is unclear.

A game like Gigabash, with its ease of play, fits the party game niche perfectly. It’s something that almost any gamer, regardless of experience, can handle. So it makes perfect sense to include Godzilla, a character who, like the game, can appeal to a wide range of people. A person does not need to know their forgotten history Godzilla franchise to familiarize yourself with the classic monster.

More simplistic experiences like Gigabash they’re refreshing in a gaming landscape that can get bogged down in skill trees and leveling. And with the power of the name that Godzilla brings, hopefully more players will be exposed to the ridiculous fun that this game has to offer.

Gigabash is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
