Apple’s ‘Slow Horses’ Season 2 is one of the best-reviewed shows of the year

I forget I have Apple TV Plus sometimes because my Google-OS TV literally won’t let me install the app, so I have to watch it through my PlayStation 5. But if there’s one thing I’ve always said about its TV offerings Apple, this is what pound for pound, is one of the best streaming libraries out there. And that’s certainly the case when it comes to Slow Horses, the prestige spy thriller that just finished its second season.

Slow Horses stars Gary Oldman who runs Slough House, full of ‘slow horses’, exiled spies who have been punished for a lousy assignment. While season 1 was solid, season 2 is exceptionaland in fact, it’s one of the major, best-reviewed releases on any streaming service this year.

Slow Horses Season 2 currently has 100% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, over 20 of them agree, and a 96% from fans. That’s up from Season 1’s already good 95%/90%.

This also makes it one of the best reviewed seasons of a show I can find on the site for 202. Sure, there are huge megahits that had a lot more television viewing, but such high critical and audience ratings are rare. Other scorers this year include:

  • The Bear – 100% (74 critics), 91% audience rating
  • Better Call Saul Season 6 – 99% (179 critics), 93% audience rating
  • What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 – 100% (29 reviewers), 86% audience rating
  • Reservation Dogs Season 2 – 100% (31 critics), 89% audience rating
  • Barry Season 3 – 99% (93 critics), 87% audience rating

As you can see, Slow Horses beats them all. The one show he loses on? Warrior Nun season 2 on Netflix, which has a 100% from 10 critics and a 99% audience rating from over 8,000 fans, who tried to use this audience rating to convince Netflix to renew the series for a 3rd season. Netflix canceled it anyway.

The thing is, Slow Horses season 2 is really good. Apple realizes what it has in this spy drama, and in Season 1, it has already greenlit Seasons 2 and 3, and Season 2 ends with a preview of Season 3, which has already been filmed. Production is just moving on this thing, and we should be seeing its third season in short order, it seems. We’ll see if he can knock another story out of the park like he did this year.
